Pennsylvania Republican Bill Seeks Child Support from Fathers for Unborn Babies

Pennsylvania is considering a new bill that would require biological fathers to provide financial support during pregnancy. Introduced on December 12 by Representative Seth M. Grove (R-York County), House Bill 2190, also known as the “unborn child support” bill, aims to ensure that fathers contribute financially from the start of the mother’s pregnancy.

The bill proposes that fathers begin providing support from the first prenatal medical visit, with the goal of covering the child’s basic needs throughout pregnancy and beyond. “Providing the necessary financial support to a child from conception through age 18 is paramount to ensuring that the child’s basic needs are covered,” the bill states.

Currently under review by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, the legislation would give biological mothers the right to petition the court for child support during the prenatal period. If passed, it would allow mothers to seek financial assistance from fathers starting from the date of the first medical visit during pregnancy.

Grove has expressed his intention to push further legislation to establish unborn child support obligations, emphasizing the importance of financial assistance early in a child’s life.
