Intense Santa Ana winds are intensifying the destruction caused by multiple wildfires raging across Southern California, forcing tens of thousands of residents to evacuate their homes as firefighters battle the blazes.
In Los Angeles County, three major brush fires are currently being fought by thousands of firefighters. Among them is the Palisades Fire, which is now one of California’s most destructive fires in history, burning through more than 23,000 acres and currently at 22% containment, according to the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The Eaton Fire, the second most destructive fire in the state’s history and the most damaging fire on record in Los Angeles, has consumed over 14,000 acres. It is now 55% contained. Meanwhile, the Hurst Fire, which has scorched nearly 800 acres, is nearing full containment at 98%.

Other fires, including the Woodley, Sunset, Lidia, Kenneth, and Archer Fires, have all been fully contained.
As of now, at least 27 deaths are believed to be linked to the fires, with numerous injuries reported. This number is expected to rise as officials continue their investigations. The fire-related toll continues to overwhelm the region, prompting President Joe Biden to approve a disaster declaration for California, following a request from Governor Gavin Newsom, who declared a state of emergency on January 7.
