Oreo Data Breach Settlement: How to Claim Your $7,000 Check

Oreo fans and consumers of several other popular snack brands may be in line for checks worth thousands of dollars following a class action settlement with Mondelez International, the parent company behind Oreo, Triscuit, Wheat Thins, and more.

The settlement comes after a class action lawsuit was filed against Mondelez International and its legal representatives, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, accusing the company of failing to implement adequate cybersecurity measures to protect consumer data. This lawsuit stemmed from a significant data breach that occurred in February 2023, exposing personal information such as addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and more.

While Mondelez International and Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner have not admitted fault, both parties have agreed to pay a $750,000 settlement to resolve the issue.

Who’s Eligible?

To qualify for a payout from the settlement, individuals must have received a notification from the company or the law firm informing them that their personal information was compromised in the breach. If you did not receive this notification, unfortunately, you will not be eligible to file a claim.

How to File a Claim

If you received the notification, you’ll need to file a claim online by February 10, 2025. A Class Member ID, included in the notice, will be required to submit the claim form.

It’s important to note that the deadline for excluding yourself or filing objections has already passed (January 13), and the final hearing for the case will occur on January 21.

Payment Details

Eligible individuals who submit a valid claim could receive up to $7,000 to cover out-of-pocket expenses resulting from the data breach. These expenses might include things like bank fees, credit monitoring, fraudulent charges, or identity theft damages.

Additionally, claimants may be entitled to compensation for lost time, up to $125 ($25 per hour for a maximum of five hours).

For those whose information was compromised but who didn’t experience direct financial loss, a payment will still be issued, though the exact amount will depend on the total number of claims and available funds.

Other settlements are also coming soon, offering additional payout opportunities, including a $2.2 million home settlement and up to $5,000 from a physical therapy data breach settlement.

Stay vigilant and check for any notifications that may qualify you for a share of these settlement funds
