How Seniors Can Claim Up to $6,500 in Data Breach Settlement Payments

Seniors affected by the major Vi data breach could be entitled to a substantial cash settlement of up to $6,500. Those impacted simply need to submit a valid claim form and provide supporting documents such as bank statements to receive compensation.

The luxury senior living company, Vi, was hit by a cyberattack on March 13, 2023, resulting in a breach of personal information, including Social Security numbers, financial data, medical records, and names. While Vi has not admitted liability, the company has agreed to a class-action settlement offering both cash payouts and protection services to those affected by the breach.

The settlement provides two types of payments depending on the extent of the losses suffered:

  1. Ordinary Losses: Up to $1,500 for costs like bank fees, credit-related expenses, travel costs, and communication charges. Additionally, victims can claim up to seven hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour. To receive this, you must submit documentation showing how your time was lost due to the breach or a written explanation connecting the loss to the data breach.
  2. Extraordinary Losses: Up to $5,000 for more severe losses related to fraud or identity theft that can be traced back to the breach. These payments are for those who experienced more significant financial harm.

In addition to the monetary payout, affected individuals will receive two years of free Medical Shield Complete Monitoring, which includes $1 million in medical identity theft insurance, real-time monitoring of medical data, and access to fraud resolution agents, providing extra protection from future threats.

To file a claim and claim your share of the settlement, you must submit a valid claim form at ViSettlement.com by February 3, 2025. Be sure to include necessary documents such as bank statements, credit card bills, or receipts for credit monitoring services as proof of your losses. The settlement hearing for final approval will take place on February 19, so ensure your claim is submitted on time.

This settlement could be a significant lifeline for seniors who have suffered from the Vi data breach, providing both financial relief and enhanced protection against future identity theft.

The breach, which the lawsuit claims could have been avoided with better cybersecurity measures, led to claims that patients’ private data was compromised. Those impacted by this breach—identified in notifications sent around December 27, 2023—can file for compensation based on their losses.

Here’s how the settlement compensates victims:

  1. Ordinary Expenses: Up to $500 for out-of-pocket costs such as communication charges, bank fees, credit monitoring expenses, and other related costs.
  2. Extraordinary Expenses: Victims who experienced fraud or identity theft can receive up to $7,500 in compensation for out-of-pocket losses that were not reimbursed.

This settlement is another critical effort to provide financial assistance to those affected by the breach. If you believe your information was compromised by the Hapy Bear Surgery Center, check your eligibility and file your claim to secure your compensation.
