FDA Issues Urgent Class 1 Recall for Salmon Sold at Popular Retail Chain

The FDA recently upgraded the recall of Kirkland Signature smoked salmon from Costco to a Class 1 recall, marking it as a high-risk food safety issue. Initially issued in October 2024 due to potential contamination with Listeria Monocytogenes, the recall was reassessed to Class 1, which the FDA describes as a situation where exposure to the product could result in serious health consequences or even death.

The recall concerns 111 cases of the smoked salmon, sold in twin 12-ounce packages with UPC 0 96619 25697 6 and Lot number 8512801270, bearing a best-by date of November 13, 2024. While the product is no longer on store shelves, it’s possible that some customers have it stored in their freezers.

Consumers who have purchased the affected salmon are urged to dispose of it immediately or return it to Costco for a full refund.
