Thousands of Americans may be eligible for compensation through a $5.8 million settlement involving Nationstar Mortgage, which was accused of violating mortgage servicing laws.
Who Qualifies for a Payment?
This settlement aims to provide relief to borrowers who lost their homes due to alleged errors by Nationstar Mortgage when their loans were transferred to the company.
Eligible borrowers must meet one of the following criteria:
- Their mortgage was transferred to Nationstar between February 1, 2011, and December 18, 2017, and was marked 30 days overdue within 90 days of the transfer.
- Their property was inspected by Nationstar, declared vacant, and had locks changed between June 24, 2011, and December 29, 2017.
- They requested access to their locked property within 30 days of the lock change or had their property reclassified as occupied within 90 days of the lock change.
Allegations Against Nationstar
The mortgage company is accused of multiple servicing violations, which allegedly resulted in financial harm to borrowers and, in some cases, home foreclosures.

While the exact payment amounts haven’t been disclosed, qualifying borrowers may have received a letter indicating the minimum compensation they could receive.
The deadline to submit a claim is March 3, 2025.
