San Bernardino County authorities arrested Melyi Lopez, a 40-year-old homeless woman, on charges of arson after she was accused of setting fire to an open field in Bloomington on January 25.
At approximately 4:13 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a fire in the 10800 block of Cedar Avenue, close to several businesses in the area. A caller reported witnessing Lopez intentionally starting the fire before fleeing the scene.

Thanks to the quick actions of bystanders, the flames were contained and extinguished before they could spread further. Deputies located Lopez nearby and arrested her without incident.
Lopez was booked into the West Valley Detention Center, where she remains in custody with a $30,000 bail. She is facing charges of arson for the incident.
