Sword-Wielding Man Arrested After Barricading Himself in Los Angeles County

A man was arrested in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw area after allegedly chasing residents with a sword on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a large police response, officials confirmed to KTLA.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported that officers responded around 10:15 a.m. to the 3800 block of Gibraltar Avenue after receiving reports of a man brandishing a sword. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect, who has yet to be publicly identified, had barricaded himself inside a location believed to be isolated.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident, and there were no signs of anyone being physically harmed by the man’s actions.

SWAT units and LAPD officers secured the area as the standoff unfolded, with officers surrounding what appeared to be apartment buildings. Witness footage shared on Citizen.com showed police officers in tactical gear stationed outside the area, with several streets taped off as they attempted to deescalate the situation.

After hours of negotiations and monitoring, LAPD officials confirmed that the man was taken into custody without further incident at around 4:21 p.m.

At this time, authorities have not released additional details about the suspect or the events leading up to the confrontation. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have stated that further information will be shared as it becomes available.
