28-Year-Old Los Angeles Comic Dies, Shocking the Comedy Community

Ken Flores, a rising star in the Los Angeles comedy scene, tragically passed away on Tuesday at the age of 28. Known for his collaborations with big-name comedians such as Gabriel Iglesias and Jo Koy, Flores was found dead at his home in the afternoon, though the cause of death has yet to be determined.

Originally from Chicago, Flores made a name for himself in Southern California’s competitive comedy circuit. His standout project, “LatinXL,” was a showcase that aimed to give Latino comedians a platform to gain exposure and connect with audiences. The show, which he started at the Comedy Store in Chicago, became a staple for rising Latino talent, offering them opportunities in an industry where such chances are often limited. A tribute shared on the show’s Instagram account expressed the deep impact Flores had on the comedy community, especially his commitment to creating a space for his peers.

“LatinXL was born out of late-night pre-pandemic talks and backyard COVID shows, with the dream of opening doors for Latinos in comedy, who often face barriers in the industry,” the tribute read. “It wouldn’t have existed without Ken. The ‘XL’ was a tribute to Ken’s larger-than-life personality, and his ability to captivate crowds everywhere. We will miss him dearly, and our hearts are with his family.”

The Hollywood Improv, another venue where Flores performed, also shared a heartfelt tribute. “Ken, you were greatness, and it was only a matter of time before the world saw your talent. You were a kind soul and a friend to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing you. Thank you for all the laughs. We love you.”

Many comedians who worked with Flores, including Bobby Lee, took to social media to remember him as a “beast on stage,” while others reflected on his generous spirit. Comedian Sampson McCormick summed it up: “Ken was a great comic and an even cooler guy. Sending love to his family.”

Flores’ loss leaves a void in the comedy world, but his contributions to the Latino comedy scene and his vibrant personality will be remembered fondly by all who had the chance to see him perform.
