A man driving a damaged pickup truck gave up to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers Thursday afternoon after leading them on a brief pursuit along the 5 Freeway.
The chase began around 2 p.m. when the Bakersfield Police Department initiated the pursuit, and the CHP took over shortly afterward. By the time Sky5 captured footage at around 2:15 p.m., the white pickup had lost its front right tire, and the vehicle was left barely functioning on a damaged rim.

Despite the extensive damage, the truck continued traveling south on the 5 Freeway, reaching speeds of up to 60 mph. The driver struggled to maintain control, with parts of the truck flying off as it swerved along the road.
At about 2:20 p.m., the truck slowed near the center divider and eventually came to a stop. The driver, a man, exited the vehicle with his hands raised and was promptly taken into custody by officers.
