29-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run in Los Angeles County

A 29-year-old driver was taken into custody on Sunday morning after allegedly causing a fatal collision in Gardena and fleeing the scene, according to police reports.

The incident unfolded near the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and 135th Street when the Gardena Police Department received emergency calls at approximately 7:38 a.m. about a crash involving two vehicles. When officers arrived, they discovered both vehicles at the scene and immediately summoned the Los Angeles County Fire Department to assist a driver who was unresponsive inside his car.

Despite efforts by first responders to revive him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained critical injuries from the collision. Authorities are currently withholding the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

In contrast, the driver of the second vehicle was nowhere to be found when officers checked on her condition. The police later identified her as 29-year-old Marian James. Shortly after the incident, law enforcement located and arrested James outside her Los Angeles home.

According to a press release from the Gardena Police Department, initial investigations suggest that James was driving southbound on Van Ness Avenue when she reportedly ran a red light at 135th Street, colliding with an eastbound vehicle on that road. As a result of her actions, officers have charged her with manslaughter.

The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who has additional information to come forward. Witnesses can contact Sergeant Daniel Guzzo at 310-217-6122 or Investigator Jose Zamudio at 310-217-6189.
