Two men from Texas were arrested in Orange County after a stolen car was tracked using the victim’s Apple AirPods.
The suspects, identified as Steve Vorrath, 30, from Georgetown, and Marcel George Urban, 34, from Corpus Christi, were apprehended in connection with the theft of a Volkswagen Beetle on February 1. The Irvine Police Department received a report from the vehicle’s owner, who had left their AirPods inside the car. Using the AirPods’ tracking feature, the victim was able to monitor the suspects’ movements.

Police traced the location of the AirPods to the University Park Center shopping plaza, where they found the stolen car and the suspects still inside. Bodycam footage showed officers approaching the vehicle in an outdoor dining area, instructing the men to exit, and taking them into custody without incident.
Both Vorrath and Urban were taken to the Orange County Jail and face charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and conspiracy to commit a crime.
