A quiet Encino neighborhood became the scene of a tragic crime Wednesday night when a 54-year-old woman was found shot to death outside a home.
Authorities with the Los Angeles Police Department were called to the 18000 block of Santa Rita Street around 7:22 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified the suspect as the woman’s 64-year-old husband, who was taken into custody at the location. However, officials have yet to release the names of those involved.

Residents of the normally peaceful area were stunned by the fatal shooting. Neighbor Elinor Ahoubim recalled the disturbing sounds that filled the street before police arrived. According to her, her brother first heard a woman crying out for help, and shortly after, she herself heard frantic screaming in Spanish.
“I didn’t understand what she was saying, but she sounded absolutely terrified,” Ahoubim said. “It was chilling. I’ve always felt safe here, but now this changes everything.”
At this time, authorities have not disclosed a possible motive or any details about the events leading up to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Encino, known for its suburban charm and safety, rarely sees violent crimes of this nature, leaving many in the community unsettled. Police continue to gather evidence and speak with witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
