A tragic collision on the northbound 405 Freeway near Wilshire Boulevard claimed the life of a 72-year-old woman and left three others injured Friday evening, according to authorities.
The crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m., prompting an emergency response from the Los Angeles Fire Department and California Highway Patrol. First responders pronounced the elderly woman dead at the scene.
Two individuals sustained critical injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. A third victim, a 60-year-old woman, was reported to be in fair condition.

In addition to the human casualties, the crash also resulted in the death of a dog, while another dog involved in the incident remains missing.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash. The No. 3, 4, and 5 lanes of the freeway were shut down for several hours as officials worked to clear the wreckage and conduct their investigation.
