Authorities are investigating a tragic incident that occurred early Saturday morning on the 101 Freeway near Universal Studios Hollywood, where a vehicle struck two pedestrians, leaving one dead and another severely injured.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash happened around 2:36 a.m. on the northbound lanes, just south of the Lankershim Boulevard exit. A black Jeep Wrangler traveling in the area collided with the two individuals who were on the roadway at the time.
Emergency responders pronounced one pedestrian dead at the scene, while the second victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with major injuries. CHP has not confirmed whether those injuries are life-threatening.

The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. However, officials have not yet determined why the pedestrians were on the freeway or if any external factors, such as speeding, alcohol, or drugs, played a role in the incident.
As of Saturday morning, the identities of the victims had not been released, and no arrests had been made. The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
