A teenager riding an electric bike at high speed was injured Friday night after crashing into a police vehicle outside the Simi Valley Police Department.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Tapo Canyon Road and the 118 Freeway, where multiple juveniles were reportedly racing e-bikes on the sidewalk. Officers responded to the scene and attempted to stop the group.
According to a statement from the Simi Valley Police Department, one of the teens refused to stop and sped away through the department’s parking lot, heading toward Alamo Street and Michael Clark Memorial Parkway.

At that intersection, another officer—who had activated their vehicle’s lights and siren—attempted to stop the fleeing teen. However, the juvenile ran a red light and attempted to cross in front of the police vehicle.
“The officer came to a stop in an effort to prevent a collision,” the SVPD stated. “Despite this, the e-bike rider crashed into the rear push-bar bumper of the police cruiser.”
The teen, whose age and gender were not disclosed, sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was treated on the scene by paramedics.
The California Highway Patrol is now investigating the incident, and no further details have been released.
Authorities also issued a reminder that electric bike riders are required to follow the same traffic laws as traditional bicyclists and motor vehicles under the California Vehicle Code, starting with Section 21200.
