Super Bowl Party Alert: Nationwide Food Recall Issued Ahead of Big Game

As football fans gear up for Super Bowl LIX, food is a major part of the celebration. However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued multiple recalls on food items that could be part of party spreads across the country. These recalls affect a variety of products, from snacks to dips, and could still be in consumers’ homes even if they’ve been pulled from store shelves.

Why This Matters

With Super Bowl parties being a major event, many people may already have these recalled products in their refrigerators or pantries. The recalls involve potential contamination, mislabeling, and even foreign objects in food, posing a risk to consumers.

Food Recalls to Be Aware Of

Tahini Recall
Turkana, a New Jersey-based company, has recalled 858 cases of Aleppo Tahini Paste due to possible salmonella contamination. The affected product comes in 16-ounce plastic jars, labeled Lot#120824-01, with an expiration date of August 2026.

This recall applies to products sold in Florida, Kentucky, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, Alabama, Missouri, and California.

Taquito Recall
Aldi’s Casa Mamita Chicken & Cheese Taquitos were recalled in January after a consumer found metal fragments inside the product. The recall affects 20-ounce cartons with best-by dates of 07/03/25 and 09/25/25. The packaging bears the establishment number “EST. P-40327.”

Empanada Recall
Walmart issued a public health alert regarding chicken empanadas sold at its stores. The product, labeled Chicken Curry Empanadas, may actually contain Apple Cinnamon Empanadas, which have undeclared milk. This mislabeling could be dangerous for individuals with dairy allergies.

Nut Recall
Consumers planning to serve nuts at their gatherings should check their Greenwise Organic Pecan Halves. The FDA warned that 7,920 bags from Pecan Star and Nut Corp may contain undeclared walnuts, posing a risk to those with nut allergies.

The affected 8-ounce plastic packages have lot number 0000018228 and a best-by date of April 23, 2025. These were distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Potato Chip Recall
In December, Frito-Lay recalled certain bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips due to the possible presence of undeclared milk. This recall, classified as high risk by the FDA in late January, affects products sold in Oregon and Washington.

Consumer Warnings

The FDA advises consumers to check their Super Bowl party supplies for any recalled items. The agency warns that consuming recalled foods could lead to serious illness or allergic reactions, particularly for individuals with weakened immune systems.

Looking Ahead

Super Bowl LIX is set for Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The event will be broadcast on FOX and available for streaming on Fubo and the FOX Sports app.

Before hosting or attending a Super Bowl party, it’s essential to review food purchases to ensure that no recalled products are on the menu.
