Last Chance to Claim $5,100 From Data Breach Settlement—Check Your State’s Payout

Millions of Americans may be entitled to financial compensation as part of a class action settlement following a 2023 data breach involving mental health provider Brightline.

The lawsuit alleged that Brightline failed to properly protect sensitive personal information, allowing hackers to gain access to millions of individuals’ data, including names, Social Security numbers, and insurance details. While the company has agreed to a settlement, it has not admitted to any wrongdoing.

Who Is Eligible?

Individuals who received a notification from Brightline stating that their data may have been compromised in the breach can file a claim. However, the deadline to submit a claim is February 26, 2025.

Settlement Payout Options

Claimants have two cash payment options under the settlement:

  • Option A: Up to $5,000 for documented losses related to the breach, including expenses like credit monitoring fees, bank charges, fraud-related losses, or identity theft costs. Proof of these losses, such as bank statements, receipts, or telephone records, is required.
  • Option B: A flat payment of $100 for those who do not have documented losses but were impacted by the breach.

Additionally, California residents can receive an extra $100 statutory award, regardless of which payment option they choose.

Additional Benefits for Claimants

In addition to financial compensation, affected individuals can claim three years of free credit monitoring. Those who previously accepted two years of free monitoring from Brightline can receive an additional year as part of the settlement.

The credit monitoring package includes:
Three-bureau credit monitoring
Dark web scanning
Public records monitoring
Medical identity monitoring
Identity theft insurance
Access to fraud resolution specialists

Important Deadlines

  • Claim submission deadline: February 26, 2025
  • Final approval hearing: February 10, 2025
  • Exclusion request deadline: January 9, 2025 (now closed)

Those eligible must file a claim before the deadline to receive compensation. Failure to do so will result in losing the right to payment or to take future legal action against Brightline regarding this breach.
