In a major shift that follows a growing trend, another major company is packing its bags and saying goodbye to California. Realtor.com, one of the most well-known online real estate platforms, has announced that it will be moving its corporate headquarters from the Golden State to Austin, Texas.
The decision aligns with a wave of businesses relocating to Texas, drawn by its lower taxes, thriving economy, and business-friendly environment. The move is expected to create new job opportunities for Texans as the company plans to expand its workforce in the region.
Why Texas?
Realtor.com’s CEO Damian Eales highlighted several reasons for choosing Austin as the company’s new home. He pointed to Texas’ booming housing market, affordable cost of living, and the city’s vibrant culture as key factors behind the relocation.
“Austin and Texas offer a strong and growing talent pool, a powerhouse economy with unparalleled housing growth, affordability of living only matched by its aspirational lifestyle, expansive tech and academic communities, and a dynamic and vibrant city at the heart of the thriving state of Texas,” Eales stated.

The company, which was founded in 1995 and currently employs around 2,000 people, is looking to tap into Texas’ deep talent pool while also attracting new recruits to the area.
Texas Leaders Welcome Realtor.com
Texas Governor Greg Abbott praised the decision, emphasizing the state’s appeal to businesses seeking a more favorable environment. “We are proud to welcome Realtor.com’s corporate headquarters to Austin as they expand their presence in Texas,” Abbott said in a statement. He also pointed to Texas’ lack of corporate and personal income taxes as a key advantage for companies making the switch.
With its new headquarters in East Austin, Realtor.com is gearing up to establish deeper roots in Texas, bringing more opportunities to the local job market. As more businesses make similar moves, Texas continues to solidify its reputation as one of the top destinations for corporate relocations.
