Walmart Adjusts Christmas Eve Hours for Last-Minute Shoppers – Key Details

Walmart customers planning last-minute holiday shopping should take note of adjusted hours during the Christmas season. The retail giant is offering in-store and online deals for last-minute gifts but will operate on a limited schedule around the holiday.

Walmart’s Adjusted Holiday Hours

On Christmas Eve, Walmart’s 4,606 locations nationwide will open at the usual time of 6 AM but will close early at 6 PM. This schedule marks a significant reduction from its typical hours of 6 AM to 11 PM, cutting shopping time by five hours.

Additionally, all Walmart locations will close for 24 hours on Christmas Day, giving employees the chance to spend time with their families.

Shoppers can confirm specific hours for their nearest Walmart location by using the Walmart Store Locator tool, which provides detailed holiday schedules.

Competitor Adjustments

Walmart isn’t the only retailer making changes.

  • Target will also close its 1,963 stores on Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve, Target will operate with limited hours from 7 AM to 8 PM, though times may vary by location.
  • Other major retailers, including Costco, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar, and prominent department stores such as Macy’s, Kohl’s, Nordstrom Rack, and Burlington, will all remain closed on December 25.

  • Convenience stores and gas stations, including 7-Eleven, Wawa, and Circle K.
  • Coffee shops like Starbucks.

For those opting to send gifts, it’s crucial to stay aware of shipping deadlines for USPS, UPS, and FedEx to ensure packages arrive in time for Christmas.

Budget-Friendly Holiday Tips

To avoid overspending on last-minute purchases, financial experts recommend strategies such as creating a budget, using discounts and coupons, shopping online for price comparisons, and considering thoughtful, low-cost gift alternatives.

By planning ahead and staying informed about store hours, shoppers can navigate the holiday season stress-free while ensuring their loved ones receive their gifts on time.
