During a congressional hearing on Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia of Long Beach took a strong stance against billionaire Elon Musk’s leadership of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Garcia, a Democrat, criticized Musk’s growing influence over government operations, suggesting the entrepreneur was consolidating power under the guise of streamlining federal agencies. The DOGE department, created to cut waste and improve efficiency, has already begun targeting agencies such as the Education and Labor departments and the National Institutes of Health. However, critics fear its approach could weaken essential services.
During his remarks, Garcia drew a controversial parallel to past congressional antics, referencing a previous instance when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene displayed explicit images of Hunter Biden. In a pointed move, he introduced what he mockingly called a “D— Pic,” revealing a photograph of Musk, whom he sarcastically referred to as “President Elon Musk.”

Garcia didn’t stop there—he quoted lyrics from Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us while taking jabs at both Musk and former President Donald Trump. Addressing concerns over reports of teenage DOGE employees, he remarked, “They’re trying to rob you … and they’re probably a minor.”
The comments sparked sharp criticism from Rep. William Timmons (R-South Carolina), who accused Democrats of failing to take fiscal responsibility seriously.
“It’s disappointing that my colleagues on the left are making light of this,” Timmons said, defending recent spending cuts under the Trump administration. “We’re facing a $36 trillion national debt and an annual deficit nearing $2 trillion.”
This hearing marked the first session of the newly formed Delivering on Government Efficiency subcommittee, which aims to address fraud and improper government payments. However, with tensions running high, the debate over DOGE’s impact on federal agencies is far from over.
