A 14-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection with a stabbing that occurred during an immigrants’ rights demonstration in downtown Los Angeles, officials announced Wednesday. The attack left a 17-year-old male victim critically injured.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the stabbing happened on Feb. 7 at around 1:30 p.m. in Grand Park, near 200 North Spring Street. Emergency responders arrived to find the injured teen suffering from a stab wound. Paramedics from the L.A. Fire Department transported him to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Authorities have not disclosed many details about the incident, and it remains unclear what led to the violence. However, aerial footage from Sky5 captured a physical altercation in the area following the stabbing.

A witness, identified only as Will, told KTLA that he believed the suspect was not part of the demonstration, which had drawn hundreds of participants, including students protesting the Trump administration’s deportation policies.
“I was at the protest when I noticed someone approach who didn’t seem to be involved,” the witness said. “I recorded everything on my camera.”
Following the stabbing, organizers urged attendees to leave the park for safety. As the investigation continued, LAPD advised the public to avoid the area and temporarily shut down Spring Street between Temple Street and 1st Street.
On Feb. 11, officers from the LAPD Rampart Division arrested the 14-year-old suspect just before 5 p.m. He was booked on an attempted murder charge.
Officials have not provided an update on the condition of the 17-year-old victim.
