Final Chance to Claim Up to $5,100 from Data Breach Settlement – State Rules Apply

Millions of individuals impacted by a 2023 data breach at mental health provider Brightline may be entitled to financial compensation, but time is running out to file a claim.

A class action lawsuit accused Brightline of failing to properly safeguard personal information, allowing hackers to gain access to millions of records, including names, Social Security numbers, and insurance details.

While Brightline has not admitted wrongdoing, the company has agreed to a settlement, offering affected individuals the chance to claim financial relief.

Who Can File a Claim?

The settlement covers individuals who were notified by Brightline that their information may have been compromised in the 2023 cyberattack.

Payout Options

Claimants have two options for compensation:

  • Option A – Up to $5,000: Those who experienced financial losses due to the breach can claim reimbursement for documented expenses. This includes credit monitoring fees, fraudulent charges, bank fees, or identity theft-related costs. Supporting documents, such as bank statements or receipts, must be submitted.

  • Option B – $100 Flat Payment: Those who did not incur direct losses or choose not to provide documentation can apply for a one-time $100 payment.

Additionally, California residents are eligible for an extra $100 statutory award under state privacy laws.

A final approval hearing is scheduled for February 10, 2025, and the exclusion deadline has already passed. Those who do not file a claim by the deadline will forfeit their right to receive compensation or take future legal action related to the breach.
