Man Killed in South L.A. Hit-and-Run, Suspect at Large

Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 40-year-old man in South Los Angeles.

The victim, identified as Jose Martinez, was fatally struck while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of 53rd Street and Figueroa Street on Jan. 7 at around 7:21 p.m.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), a silver Porsche Cayenne traveling north on Figueroa Street hit Martinez and then fled the scene without stopping to help.

Emergency responders arrived, but Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police released images of the suspect’s vehicle, though the license plate remains unknown.

LAPD reminds drivers that they are legally required to stop, report the accident, and provide assistance if involved in a collision.

A $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the driver’s arrest and conviction.
