Fremont and San Jose follow closely, with required salaries surpassing $260,000 annually. Meanwhile, Los Angeles, ranked eighth, requires a minimum income of $186,000 per year.

The study determines these figures by doubling each city’s cost-of-living index, reflecting the rising expenses driven by a 3% increase in the Consumer Price Index over the past year. Essentials such as groceries and fuel have contributed to the overall spike in living costs.
On the other end of the spectrum, Cleveland, Ohio, ranks as the most affordable major city, where an individual can live comfortably on just $48,000 per year.
