Los Angeles police detained an individual on Saturday afternoon after they were spotted standing atop the Hollywood sign, authorities confirmed to KTLA.
Unusual Scene at the Hollywood Landmark
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), officers responded to a call at approximately 2:54 p.m. after receiving reports of someone standing on the iconic landmark. The person, whose identity has not been publicly released, was seen holding a flag promoting a cryptocurrency called Vigilante Token.
The flag, which was white, displayed the company’s name, an X (formerly Twitter) handle, a website address, and an image resembling a logo.
Witnesses described the individual as dressed entirely in dark clothing, wearing a ski mask and a camouflage vest with a mix of dark and light colors.

Social Media and Cryptocurrency Promotion
Just a day before the incident, Vigilante Token announced its upcoming February 15, 2025, launch in a social media post, claiming it would be revealed in a “viral” way. Then, minutes before LAPD received the report, the company’s official X account posted a picture of the Hollywood sign with the caption “Currently…”
Authorities Respond and Make an Arrest
Park rangers initially attempted to engage with the individual while an ambulance was placed on standby in case of injuries. However, officers were able to take the person into custody before 4 p.m.
At this time, officials have not disclosed any potential charges, and further details about the individual’s motives and legal consequences remain unclear.
