LOS ANGELES, CA – A balcony collapse in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake neighborhood on Saturday night startled residents, leaving one person hospitalized and others shaken.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the collapse occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Robinson Street near Marathon Street.
Residents React to Sudden Collapse
Local resident John McCauley recalled being woken up by a loud crash.
“We had just gone to bed when we heard this huge boom,” McCauley told KTLA. “When we stepped onto our balcony, we heard people moaning in pain.”

The accident involved four people and a dog, who had been enjoying the evening on a third-story balcony when the structure unexpectedly gave way, crashing onto the level below.
Quick Action to Help the Victims
McCauley immediately called 911, while his wife grabbed bedsheets to assist in pulling the trapped individuals from the collapsed section. The area was cluttered with furniture debris, making the rescue challenging.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, with fire trucks lining the narrow neighborhood streets.
Extent of Injuries and Damage
Among the group, one woman suffered an apparent wrist injury and was transported to the hospital. The other three declined medical treatment, and the dog was unharmed.
Footage from the scene suggests that the right side of the balcony gave way, though the full extent of the damage to the lower-level structure remains unclear.
Heavy Rains May Have Weakened the Balcony
Inspectors from the L.A. Department of Building and Safety suspect that recent heavy rains may have compromised the structural integrity of the balcony, ultimately leading to its collapse.
Despite the shocking incident, McCauley emphasized that residents were relieved the situation wasn’t worse.
“They were shaken, but incredibly grateful that everyone made it out safely,” he said.
