‘So Long Tesla’: Sheryl Crow Cuts Ties Over Elon Musk

It looks like Sheryl Crow isn’t “leaving Las Vegas,” but she is leaving Tesla behind.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, best known for hits like If It Makes You Happy, shared a video on Instagram over the weekend, waving goodbye as her Tesla was hauled away.

In her caption, Crow made it clear that her decision to part ways with the electric car brand was due to its association with Elon Musk, whom she jokingly referred to as “President Musk.”

“My parents always told me—who you associate with says a lot about you,” Crow wrote. “At some point, you have to decide where you stand. Goodbye, Tesla.”

Musk’s Expanding Political Role

Musk, who first joined Tesla in 2004 as chairman and later became CEO in 2008, has since gained even more influence beyond the tech world.

In addition to running Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), Musk has now taken on a government position under President Donald Trump, serving as a “special government employee” in charge of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The agency, described as a temporary office focused on cost-cutting and reducing national debt, has made Musk a high-profile figure in Washington, D.C.

In recent weeks, Musk and Trump have appeared together multiple times, sparking speculation about the tech billionaire’s influence over the administration. Critics have even joked about who is really running the country, especially after Musk addressed reporters from the Oval Office, with Trump silently observing from the Resolute Desk.

Crow’s Response: A Stand for NPR

Crow made it clear she does not support Musk’s influence in politics. Alongside her Instagram post, she announced she would be donating to National Public Radio (NPR), an organization that has faced funding threats from Trump and Republican lawmakers.

“Making a donation to NPR, which is under attack by ‘President Musk.’ The truth must continue to reach those who seek it,” she wrote.

Musk has been publicly critical of NPR, especially on X, the social media platform he purchased in 2022. He has previously called it a “hard-left propaganda machine”, and as recently as February 4, he posted “defund NPR” to his X account.

While Musk’s growing political ties continue to make headlines, Crow has made her stance clear—her Tesla may be gone, but her commitment to speaking out remains firmly in place.
