Rising Trend of ‘Dinnertime Burglaries’ in Wealthy Southern California Area

Residents of a luxury Southern California neighborhood are being warned by police about a spike in home burglaries happening during dinnertime hours.

The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department reported on Saturday that since the start of the year, four homes have been targeted during the evening, or “dinner” hours. Authorities described the crimes as fast and stealthy, carried out under the cover of darkness.

In addition to the four burglaries during evening hours, there have been four more incidents that appear to be unrelated. These include two break-ins at the same house on Via Opata, a garage burglary, and a daytime burglary on Avenida Mirola.

Here’s a breakdown of the confirmed burglary incidents:

  • 3900 block of Via Pavion (Dec. 30 – Jan. 2): Garage door broken
  • 4000 block of Via Opata (Jan. 3 & Jan. 4): Suspects arrested
  • 3900 block of Palos Verdes Drive North (Jan. 3, 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.): Rear window smashed
  • 4100 block of Via Solano (Jan. 26, 5:30 p.m. – 8:10 p.m.): Side window smashed
  • 600 block of Avenida Mirola (Jan. 28, 11:30 a.m. – 2:42 p.m.): Unlocked rear door
  • 1500 block of Paseo La Cresta (Feb. 8, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.): Rear window smashed
  • 3900 block of Via Palomino (Feb. 13, 5:04 p.m. – 7:12 p.m.): Back door window smashed

Palos Verdes police said detectives are actively investigating the cases and working closely with neighboring law enforcement agencies. Additional officers have been assigned to specifically focus on preventing burglaries.
