Costco Shuts Down Popular Item After Frenzied Member Demand and Purchase Limits

After causing a stir in stores, a popular item at Costco has officially been discontinued, much to the disappointment of fans.

Last month, a frenzy broke out when the store released the Blooming Waters Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet collection. Shoppers rushed to get their hands on the highly sought-after set, leading to chaos and even in-store altercations as customers scrambled to buy a box. In response, Costco imposed purchase limits on the cards, fueling even more frustration among eager buyers.

Now, a post on Facebook has sparked speculation that Costco may have completely stopped selling the Blooming Waters set. A user shared, “Just heard Costco not only is NOT going to carry Blooming Waters, but also has discontinued carrying any future sets.” The post quickly gained attention, with fans flocking to the comments section to share their thoughts.

As expected, the comment section became as heated as the in-store experience. One user wrote, “I just got a membership… not for Pokémon, but it was a nice bonus.” Another lamented, “It’s a shame what’s happening in the community—let’s hope something changes.” One commenter called the situation “ridiculous,” criticizing adult collectors who are buying up products only to resell them at inflated prices.

“Imagine being a kid who just wants a pack and can’t find it anywhere without paying three times the price,” one fan added. Many expressed frustration over how scalping has taken the joy out of the hobby.

The U.S. Sun reached out to Costco for confirmation on whether the store will indeed discontinue future Pokémon sets but has yet to receive a response.

The Blooming Waters set was a premium collection of Pokémon TCG cards, featuring exclusive foil cards such as Venusaur ex, Blastoise ex, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle, along with an oversized Blastoise ex card and a code for the Pokémon TCG Live app.

Costco isn’t the only retailer facing challenges with inventory limits. The ongoing egg shortage, worsened by an avian flu outbreak, has caused major price hikes, and stores like Costco, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and Kroger have implemented purchase limits on eggs to prevent hoarding.

As shoppers continue to face shortages and limits on various products, many are left wondering what will be the next hot item to vanish from the shelves.
