Southern California Traffic Stop Uncovers Loaded Gun and Drugs Near Infant

A Hermosa Beach woman has been charged with child endangerment after a traffic stop on January 25 led to the discovery of a loaded gun and narcotics in her infant daughter’s diaper bag, according to police.

The incident unfolded during a routine traffic stop in the 100 block of 15th Street, near downtown Hermosa Beach. Officers pulled over the vehicle and soon realized that the male driver was wanted on felony warrants, leading to his immediate arrest.

Discovery of Firearm and Narcotics

While the male driver was detained, the female passenger was instructed to wait outside the vehicle with her 2-month-old daughter. As officers began searching the vehicle, they made a startling discovery.

In the body-worn camera footage released by the Hermosa Beach Police Department, an officer is shown rummaging through the woman’s diaper bag. He pulls out a loaded firearm and a small bag of narcotics, both of which were found in close proximity to the infant.

The woman denied having any knowledge of the drugs, stating, “I didn’t know that I wasn’t supposed to have a gun. I didn’t know it was like that, seriously,” according to the video.

An officer responded, emphasizing the danger: “It’s a loaded firearm. All it takes is one click, like if she grabbed that or something?”

Arrest and Child Protective Services Involvement

Following the discovery, the woman was arrested on charges of child endangerment and other related offenses. The 2-month-old infant was removed from the mother’s custody and placed under the care of child protective services.

Police have not yet released the identities of the suspect or the driver, but the case remains under investigation.

Public Safety Reminder
