Southern California House Fire Claims Lives of Woman and Cat, Firefighter Injured

A deadly fire broke out in a home in San Bernardino late Sunday night, resulting in the death of one woman and one cat, officials confirmed Monday.

Around 11:43 p.m. on February 16, emergency crews from San Bernardino County Fire were dispatched to a house fire in the 5600 block of Louise Street after reports indicated a potential victim inside.

Upon arrival, the first responding crew observed thick, dark smoke billowing from the rear of the residence and flames extending into the attic. Firefighters immediately began their efforts to battle the blaze and search for any occupants trapped inside.

Using thermal imaging technology, crews identified areas of intense heat within the house, which assisted in their search and firefighting tactics. Additionally, a truck company crew worked with personnel on the ground to create ventilation holes in the roof, helping to clear the smoke and improve visibility for the search efforts.

Despite their best efforts, the fire ultimately claimed two lives. Firefighters discovered the bodies of a woman and a cat inside the home, both of whom were already beyond resuscitation.

During the operation, a firefighter sustained a burn injury while working inside the structure. He was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment and has since been released.

A total of 17 fire personnel, including four engine companies, one ladder truck, and a battalion chief, responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
