Texas Sees Surge in Housing Demand as Californians Move to the Lone Star State

LOS ANGELES – Texas continues to attract a significant number of new residents, with migration from California and international sources being key contributors, according to a recent report by Realtor.com.

Factors driving the move to Texas include its affordable housing market, plentiful job opportunities, and favorable climate. The report reveals that more than 25% of home shoppers in Texas are from out of state. The state is also leading the nation in housing permits, accounting for 15% of all new permits issued in 2024.

Even as demand increases, Texas remains relatively affordable compared to other states. In 2024, nearly half of the homes for sale in Texas were priced at $350,000 or less, a notable contrast to the national figure of 40.1%.
