Glendale Authorities Capture Alleged Child Predator in Undercover Sting

A 23-year-old Arcadia man was taken into custody in Glendale following a sting operation that targeted suspected child predators.

The suspect, identified as Ryan Abdelrahim, was apprehended outside a Target store at the Glendale Galleria mall on Feb. 19. Authorities say Abdelrahim had arranged to meet what he believed to be a 14-year-old boy, but the encounter was actually set up by a private group known as People v. Preds.

People v. Preds works to expose alleged predators by posing as minors on various online platforms.

“We create profiles on dating apps, pretending to be underage children,” a group representative explained. “When individuals initiate contact and continue communicating after being told the age, conversations often become explicit, and they eventually agree to meet.”

According to the group, Abdelrahim engaged in conversations with what he thought was a 14-year-old and showed a clear interest in meeting up for inappropriate activities. Once he agreed to a meeting, the group alerted Glendale Police.

Video footage of the arrest shows officers approaching Abdelrahim outside the store before he suddenly takes off running toward a parking structure. Officers give chase, and after a short pursuit, Abdelrahim stops and surrenders.

Glendale Police Lt. Steve Corrigan emphasized that while People v. Preds is not affiliated with law enforcement, police will intervene when potential crimes are reported.

“They’re not working on our behalf, but when they report a crime in progress, we respond as we would in any other situation,” Corrigan stated.

Abdelrahim was charged with three felony offenses and was arraigned in Glendale on Friday. He was later released as authorities continue their investigati0n .
