A 19-year-old suspect was taken into custody after leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in Central Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Police Department identified the suspect as Kwentin Monk. The incident began on Feb. 20 when officers from LAPD’s Gang Enforcement Detail were assisting a burglary task force and attempted to stop a possible burglary suspect.
Monk refused to comply and sped away, leading officers on a pursuit that took them through multiple neighborhoods. The chase eventually reached Hancock Park, where Monk entered a cul-de-sac near Oakwood Avenue and June Street.

As police moved in, Monk suddenly turned his vehicle and accelerated toward the officers. In response, officers fired at the car, but Monk managed to escape and continued driving at high speeds. The pursuit came to an end when he crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Beverly Boulevard and Wilton Avenue in Larchmont.
After the collision, Monk abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured by officers. The driver of the car he crashed into sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. No officers were injured, and Monk was not hit by gunfire during the encounter.
Monk was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer. Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation remains ongoing .
