Gabriela Martinez, 30, pleaded no contest on Friday to voluntary manslaughter in the 2022 shooting death of her boyfriend, Kevin Ramirez, outside a Rosamond motel. The plea deal resulted in the dismissal of a first-degree murder charge, according to court records. Martinez’s sentencing is scheduled for February 25.
Incident Overview
The shooting occurred on November 9, 2022, outside the Rosamond Palms Motel. Ramirez, 37, was found dead after what appeared to be a heated altercation with Martinez.
Initially, Martinez told investigators that Ramirez had abused her and that she shot him out of fear for her safety. However, she later claimed the gun discharged accidentally during a struggle when Ramirez attempted to take it from her, allegedly intending to harm himself.

Witness and Surveillance Evidence
A motel employee provided testimony, stating that Martinez had assaulted Ramirez and pointed a gun at him on the night of the shooting.
Surveillance footage captured the couple arguing outside the motel around 11:11 p.m. Martinez was seen holding a black semi-automatic handgun, waving it, and even pointing it at Ramirez.
The argument continued as they walked toward Rosamond Boulevard, stopping at the southeast corner of the motel property. Around 11:30 p.m., surveillance video recorded a muzzle flash, after which only one person was seen walking away. Ramirez’s body was later discovered near the area where the flash occurred.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Martinez was arrested on November 14, 2022, in Acton, California, just days after the shooting.
Her plea agreement has set the stage for her sentencing, where she will face the consequences of her actions in the fatal shooting of Ramirez.
