Chelsie Brown By Cora Bennett

Chelsie Brown graduated from Bellevue East in 2011. While she was a student there, she participated in a wide range of activities. She ran track, yearbook, DECA, FBLA and was also a cheerleader. Brown has moved away from Bellevue but says that she still has a special connection to the community, in particular to Bellevue Public Schools.

“BPS means a lot to my family and me. My mom is still a teacher with BPS and growing up in a military family, the first couple years of my life we bounced around until landing in Bellevue. It always feels like home,” Brown said.

Brown attended The University of Iowa. She majored in both journalism and sport studies. It was at college that Brown discovered she has a particular liking to both television broadcasting and sports journalism. After college she began working in the journalism field.

“I always knew I wanted to do journalism, but it was in college where I found out I liked both sports journalism and the TV medium”

Currently, Brown is working as sports director for WDIO, a television station in Duluth, MN.

Brown believes that people should never give up on something that they want.

“Don’t be afraid to hear the word no. A yes is always right around the corner.”
