Authorities launched a sweeping corruption investigation in Huntington Park, California, leading to raids on City Hall, the mayor’s residence, and the homes of current and former council members. The probe, dubbed “Operation Dirty Pond,” is centered on the misuse of $14 million in public funds intended for an aquatic center project, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman.
Investigating a Failed Public Project
Since November 2022, investigators have been examining the Huntington Park Regional Aquatic Center, a proposed two-story facility that was supposed to feature an Olympic-sized pool, gym, football field, conference rooms, and other amenities. The project was labeled as a critical development on the city’s website, yet no construction has materialized.
Vice Mayor Arturo Flores expressed frustration over the lack of progress, telling FOX 11 Los Angeles that residents have nothing to show for the millions spent.
“The city has spent approximately $14 million, but all that remains is an empty lot with dead grass,” Flores stated.

Allegations of Corruption and Calls for Accountability
Former council member Linda Caraballo revealed that she had submitted a 282-page dossier to the DA’s Office years ago, warning of alleged corruption within city leadership. She emphasized that high-ranking officials should brace for legal consequences.
“This goes all the way up to the city manager and beyond,” Caraballo told FOX 11. “Many people are about to face serious problems, and they should start looking for lawyers now.”
Another former council member, Valentin Amezquita, suggested that the corruption might extend beyond the aquatic center project. He called for a forensic audit of past and present city contracts.
“This is just the beginning,” Amezquita said. “There are many more questionable projects that need to be investigated.”
Seized Evidence and Ongoing Investigation
During the raids, investigators confiscated financial records, electronic devices, and other public documents as part of the inquiry.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman reaffirmed his office’s commitment to holding public officials accountable.
“Elected officials must uphold integrity and transparency,” Hochman stated. “When concerns arise about the handling of taxpayer funds, it is our responsibility to conduct a thorough investigation and protect public trust.”
Authorities have not yet confirmed if any arrests have been made, but the case remains active and ongoing .
