EAST ISLIP, NY – Long Island ice cream fans have something sweet to look forward to—Mister Softee is launching its first-ever brick-and-mortar location in East Islip.
Famous for its iconic trucks and nostalgic jingle, Mister Softee is taking over the Carleton Ave storefront that previously housed Pam’s Ice Cream Shoppe, a beloved local spot that closed in January after four decades in business.
With this new shop, locals won’t have to chase down a passing Mister Softee truck anymore—sprinkle-covered cones, double-dipped soft serve, and thick milkshakes will now be available all year long.
A Sneak Peek at the New Store
The Mister Softee signage is already up, signaling the brand’s continued expansion across the Tri-State area. According to Greater Long Island, renovations are progressing quickly, with the space freshly painted and glowing with neon accents, preparing for its grand opening.
Though an exact opening date hasn’t been announced yet, the buzz among local ice cream lovers is already building.

Fans React to the New Shop
News of the store sparked excitement on social media, with longtime fans reminiscing about the familiar jingle that once signaled an approaching Mister Softee truck.
“I had no idea they even had actual stores! We only saw the trucks growing up—this is incredible!” one person shared.
Another fan was curious whether the store would play the Mister Softee jingle inside.
“Fun fact: The person who wrote the Mister Softee song also composed two theme songs for the Phillies and the Melrose Diner jingle!” a music enthusiast pointed out.
Meanwhile, Mister Softee’s milkshakes are already stirring up a debate.
“Best shakes ever—way better than Dairy Queen, McDonald’s, or any other ice cream shop! Prove me wrong!” one fan confidently declared.
Dairy Queen Prepares for Free Cone Day
While Mister Softee fans await the grand opening, Dairy Queen is gearing up for one of its biggest promotions of the year—Free Cone Day.
On March 19, participating Dairy Queen locations will celebrate the first day of spring by handing out free small vanilla cones to customers.
“My kids and I look forward to this every year!” one excited parent shared.
However, not all customers have had positive experiences.

Rumors Swirl About Menu Changes
Alongside Free Cone Day excitement, Dairy Queen fans are buzzing about a possible return of the cherry-dipped cone.
“I heard a rumor the cherry dip is making a comeback—is that true?” one hopeful customer asked.
Others are requesting a budget-friendly version of Dairy Queen’s famous ice cream birthday cakes.
Though Dairy Queen hasn’t confirmed these speculations, fans can still enjoy their free cones and keep their fingers crossed for the return of their favorite flavors and treats .
