Evan Lovett, the creator of the popular L.A. in a Minute podcast and a passionate advocate for Los Angeles, recently experienced a nightmare that many Angelenos fear—his home was burglarized.
Lovett took to social media on Saturday morning to share the unsettling news, describing how he returned home from his son’s little league game Friday night to find a shattered glass door and a missing safe.
Irreplaceable Valuables Stolen
Among the stolen items were sentimental valuables, including heirlooms from Lovett’s late parents and his wife’s grandmother. In a candid video, he expressed his frustration, calling the situation “unnerving” and “not cool.”

Delayed Police Response Sparks Frustration
Adding to his distress, Lovett said he was placed on hold for nearly an hour when calling 911. When officers eventually arrived, they told him that staffing shortages had impacted response times.
“Thankfully, this was ‘just’ a home burglary,” Lovett remarked. “But what if it had been a life-threatening emergency?”
Ongoing Public Safety Challenges
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has acknowledged the city’s struggle with police staffing shortages and has made increasing officer recruitment a priority. However, Lovett’s experience highlights ongoing concerns about crime and emergency response times in L.A.
Despite being a proud supporter of the city, Lovett didn’t shy away from addressing its flaws.
“This is a real problem,” he stated, emphasizing that while he loves L.A., there are still major improvements to be made.
