Beachgoers in Los Angeles County are being urged to be cautious before entering the ocean, following reports of debris washing up along the coast.
Officials say remnants from the destructive Palisades Fire have been spotted in the waters off Malibu, prompting advisories from Las Flores State Beach down to Santa Monica State Beach.
While swimming has not been officially prohibited, authorities strongly discourage entering the water, especially near debris.

“An advisory doesn’t mean the beach is completely off-limits,” said Nicole Mooradian of the L.A. County Department of Beaches and Harbors. “However, we strongly recommend staying out of the water, and if you choose to go in, you do so at your own risk.”
Efforts are underway to assess whether any hazardous materials may have entered the ocean. Forecasted rain could further spread debris into the water in the coming days.
Officials assure visitors that sediment in the sand does not pose a risk, but they advise against touching or handling any debris found on the shore. The advisory will remain in effect until further notice .
