Music World Mourns: Grammy-Nominated Singer Angie Stone Dies in Crash

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Renowned R&B singer Angie Stone, best known for her soulful hits and contributions to hip-hop history, tragically lost her life in a car accident early Saturday morning. She was 63.

Music producer Walter Millsap III confirmed the devastating news, stating that Stone was traveling back to Atlanta from Alabama around 4 a.m. when the vehicle she was in overturned and was struck by a large truck. While other passengers survived the crash, Stone did not.

Stone gained fame as a member of The Sequence, one of the first female rap groups signed to Sugar Hill Records, breaking ground in hip-hop history. She later transitioned to R&B, creating timeless hits like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” “No More Rain (In This Cloud),” and “Baby,” featuring the legendary Betty Wright.

Emerging as a key figure in the neo-soul movement of the early 2000s, Stone stood alongside artists like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Maxwell, and D’Angelo. Her critically acclaimed albums Mahogany Soul (2001) and The Art of Love & War (2007) both found success on the Billboard charts.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone’s career spanned decades, showcasing her talents beyond music. She appeared in films such as The Fighting Temptations, The Hot Chick, and Ride Along. She also made a mark on Broadway, playing the role of Matron “Mama” Morton in Chicago, and gave fans a glimpse into her personal life on reality shows like Celebrity Fit Club and R&B Divas: Atlanta.
