Southern California Man Recounts Violent Beating by Teen Mob

Southern California (Thechieftainspear) – A Los Angeles man is speaking out after he was violently attacked by a group of teenage bicyclists in a shocking street assault.

The incident took place on Feb. 22 in the Carthay neighborhood near Beverly Hills, around 5 p.m. Maurice Benaim, 28, was driving near San Vicente Boulevard and McCarthy Vista when he encountered a large group of juveniles performing bike tricks and obstructing traffic.

When Benaim honked his horn, the group reacted aggressively. One of the teens approached his vehicle, kicking it repeatedly and smashing a tail light. In response, Benaim got out of his car, but before he could react, the group turned on him.

Cell phone footage captured the horrifying moment as 20-30 teens surrounded Benaim, knocking him to the ground and brutally assaulting him with punches and kicks. One individual climbed onto his car and stomped on the windshield until it shattered.

“I was completely overwhelmed,” Benaim recalled. “I knew I was outnumbered. At that point, all I could do was protect my head and brace for the worst.”

The attack, described by authorities as a mob-style beating, ended when bystanders rushed to intervene. The teens quickly fled the scene, leaving Benaim unconscious on the pavement. Emergency responders arrived, and he was transported for medical evaluation.

Benaim suffered multiple injuries, including lacerations, extensive bruising, head trauma, and possibly fractured ribs. The emotional toll has been just as severe.

“There was absolutely no reason for what happened,” he said. “It’s terrifying to think that something so random and senseless can happen on the streets of L.A.”

His mother, Yasmile Benaim, expressed her distress over the incident, emphasizing the growing issue of unchecked violence. “We’ve become numb to things like this,” she said. “Parents need to have real conversations with their kids about consequences. What if it was your child lying there, beaten like that?”

LAPD officials confirmed that two juvenile suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, while the remaining assailants—believed to be between 16 and 18 years old—are still at large.

L.A. City Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky condemned the assault, stating, “My heart goes out to the victim and his family. While law enforcement does not currently believe this was a hate crime, violence like this is completely unacceptable. I urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Authorities are urging the public to assist in identifying the remaining suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact LAPD Wilshire Division Detective Carlos at 213-922-8229 or call the department’s tip line at 1-877-527-3247. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at lacrimestoppers.org.

A GoFundMe has been launched to assist Benaim with medical expenses .
