EL DORADO HILLS (Thechieftainspear) — Representative Tom McClintock has put a hold on certain district office hours following recent protests against President Donald Trump’s policies. His office confirmed Monday that the decision was made due to escalating tensions at these events.
McClintock, a Republican representing California’s 5th Congressional District, oversees areas including Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne, and Mariposa counties, along with portions of Stanislaus, El Dorado, Fresno, and Madera counties.
Several scheduled office hours in Modesto, Oakdale, Riverbank, and Mariposa have been canceled. According to McClintock, demonstrators have increasingly used these events to express opposition to Trump’s policies, with some encounters becoming particularly tense.
“Recently, our district office hours have been disrupted by protests,” McClintock said in a statement. “After discussions with my staff, we decided to suspend them until the situation calms down.”

At this time, there are no plans to reinstate the canceled sessions, a staff member confirmed. The move follows a protest at McClintock’s El Dorado Hills office in February, where demonstrators gathered in large numbers. Law enforcement was called to maintain order, though some protesters were allowed inside to share their concerns.
One of the protest organizers, Gina Abrams of Indivisible El Dorado, criticized the congressman’s decision, arguing that it signals a lack of willingness to engage with constituents.
“People are frustrated, worried, and upset. And now, with these meetings being canceled, it feels like he’s shutting us out,” Abrams said. She had planned to voice her concerns regarding proposed federal budget cuts and U.S. foreign policy on Russia and Ukraine.
For those hoping to meet with McClintock’s staff, alternative district office locations will be the only option until further notice.
