Wireless Alert Notifies L.A. County Residents of Glendale Missing Person Case

Los Angeles County  (Thechieftainspear) – Residents across Los Angeles County were startled Monday night when their phones simultaneously rang with a missing person alert.

The emergency notification, labeled as a “Public Safety Alert,” contained a brief but urgent message:

“Mannasseh Chibuzor Nwaigwe, Male, African American, 81 years old, missing since this morning.”

The alert was received on mobile devices around 8 p.m., but users noted that tapping on the message provided no additional details or links.

Shortly after, Ready Los Angeles County addressed the alert in a post on X (formerly Twitter), confirming it was a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) broadcast across the county. The post advised the public to direct any inquiries to the City of Glendale.

KTLA reached out to the Glendale Police Department for more information. Although the department’s main office had closed at 5 p.m., the on-duty watch commander verified that Nwaigwe had been reported missing.

Authorities disclosed that Nwaigwe suffers from dementia, but there is no indication of foul play in his disappearance.

However, officials did not immediately explain why the alert was issued to the entire county rather than a more localized area .
