Former Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley Finds New Role

Los Angeles(Thechieftainspear) – Kristin Crowley, the former Los Angeles Fire Department Chief, will not be reinstated to her previous position but will continue serving in the department under a reduced rank, officials confirmed.

Crowley has been assigned the role of Assistant Chief of LAFD’s Operations Valley Bureau, overseeing fire operations throughout the San Fernando Valley.

Crowley, who made history as LAFD’s first female chief, was removed from her post by Mayor Karen Bass on Feb. 21, following nearly three years in the leadership role. Bass cited Crowley’s handling of the Palisades Fire, which burned thousands of acres across Pacific Palisades and the Santa Monica Mountains, destroying numerous structures, as the reason for her removal.

On Tuesday, Crowley formally appealed her dismissal during a Los Angeles City Council hearing, where she needed at least 10 out of 15 votes to regain her position. However, only two councilmembers supported her reinstatement, effectively ending her efforts to return as chief. Mayor Bass did not attend the hearing.

During her appeal, Crowley defended the department’s work and called for increased funding, staffing, and resources to meet the city’s growing emergency response demands.

“The men and women of LAFD do extraordinary work every day,” Crowley stated. “This department deserves the support necessary to effectively serve our communities.”
