MOJAVE, CA (Thechieftainspear) – A major industrial project is taking shape in Kern County, as construction begins on California’s first new steel mill in more than five decades. The Mojave Micro Mill, a 500,000-square-foot facility developed by Pacific Steel Group, is set to revolutionize steel production with a focus on sustainability and job creation.
The mill, which aims to be the state’s first zero-emissions steel plant, is expected to bring nearly 700 jobs to the region. Supported by a $30 million California Competes tax credit, the project represents a $540 million investment in advanced manufacturing and green technology.

The facility will dedicate 63 acres to renewable energy and incorporate carbon capture technology to reduce its environmental impact.
To ensure a skilled workforce, the project will collaborate with California State University, Bakersfield, and other local educational institutions to provide specialized training in automation, robotics, and steel manufacturing.
Once operational, the Mojave Micro Mill is expected to play a crucial role in California’s efforts to modernize its industrial sector while reducing carbon emissions .
