Deadly Attack: L.A. County Inmate Murdered on Prison Patio

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA (Thechieftainspear) – A state prison inmate died Friday morning following an alleged attack by another incarcerated individual, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

Authorities identified the deceased as 39-year-old Joshua L. Peppers. The incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. on the Facility C patio at the Los Angeles County State Prison (LAC), where 42-year-old Terrance B. Shaw allegedly assaulted Peppers.

Prison staff responded quickly, deploying chemical agents and non-lethal weapons to break up the altercation. Officials recovered an improvised weapon from the scene, though they have not disclosed further details about the attack.

Medical personnel immediately provided life-saving measures before Peppers was transported to the prison’s triage center and then to an outside medical facility. Despite efforts to stabilize him, he was pronounced dead at 8:03 a.m.

Shaw has since been placed in restricted housing while investigators from the prison’s Investigative Services Unit and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office examine the case. The Office of the Inspector General has also been notified.

Peppers had been serving a sentence stemming from San Bernardino County convictions, including second-degree robbery with sentencing enhancements for great bodily injury and firearm use. His total sentence amounted to over 15 years.

Shaw, meanwhile, had recently been returned to prison from parole after receiving a 14-year, four-month sentence out of Monterey County for multiple offenses, including assault with force likely to cause serious injury, battery, and possession of a deadly weapon while incarcerated.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will determine Peppers’ official cause of death as the investigation continues .
