Walmart is set to close 11 stores across the United States by the end of the year. This follows the retailer’s recent introduction of body cameras at a Texas location and the revamping of other stores to give them a fresh, modern look.
Earlier in 2024, Walmart closed 51 health centers in five states, citing an “unsustainable” business model as the reason for the closures. Now, more stores are slated to shut their doors due to underperformance.
A Walmart spokesperson told AL.com, “While our underlying business is strong, this store hasn’t performed as well as we hoped.”

Adapting to Changing Retail Trends
Walmart has been working to expand its Walmart+ online shopping program, which launched in 2020. CEO Doug McMillon recently emphasized the company’s focus on growing customer enrollment in the program during the 2024 Morgan Stanley Global Consumer and Retail Conference, according to Grocery Dive.
While Walmart’s closures may be a setback for affected communities, the company continues to explore ways to enhance its online presence and improve customer experiences.
