(Thechieftainspear) – CVS is rethinking its expansion strategy with a new wave of smaller, pharmacy-centric stores designed to better serve local communities. These compact locations, each under 5,000 square feet, will focus solely on prescription services and essential over-the-counter medications, eliminating the broader retail selection found in traditional CVS stores.
A CVS representative emphasized that this shift is part of a strategic realignment, ensuring that pharmacy services are available in the right areas while adapting to evolving consumer needs.

Despite this new model, CVS is not moving away from its full-size stores altogether. The company still plans to open around 30 larger locations this year, including some inside Target stores, which will continue offering a wider range of products beyond pharmacy essentials.
This dual approach allows CVS to maintain a strong retail presence while prioritizing pharmacy access where it’s needed most.
